Naval Weapons Station Yorktown is a weapons and ammunition storage and loading facility for US Atlantic fleet ships. Naval Weapons Station Yorktown borders the cities of Newport News and Williamsburg, Virginia and sits on 14 miles of the York River shoreline. The technical requirements of the Navy have changed and grown over the years, and Naval Weapons Station Yorktown hosts 25 tenant units including the Navy Munitions Command, the Marine Corps Second Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team, the Naval Ophthalmic Support and Training Activity, and the Navy Expeditional Medical Support Command to name a few. The tenant and station commands at Naval Weapons Station Yorktown work together to provide ordnance logistics, technical, supply and related services to the Atlantic Fleet. Housing at Naval Weapons Station Yorktown is available in over 450 military housing units. Military personnel should contact the Yorktown Welcome Center for application information and wait list times. Depending on the on-post community to which the individual is assigned, wait times will vary. Single soldiers with a rank of E-4 or below are required to live on post. E-5 or higher are required to live in town if they are receiving BAH rates. Off-post housing is coordinated by the Yorktown Housing Welcome Center which keeps a list of available properties for sale or rent. Apartment complexes are also offered in the surrounding communities.
For those seeking temporary housing near Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, there are three options for lodging: the visitors’ quarters located at Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, the Navy Lodge or local hotels. The Hampton Roads region has 7 Visitors Quarters Navy Inns and Suites that provide temporary housing for single and married service members. There are three Navy Lodges in the Hampton Roads area at Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek, Norfolk Naval Base, and Dam Neck Annex. Amenities include a kitchenette and air conditioning as well as cribs and rollaways. Call 1-800-NAVY-INN for advanced reservations or more information. Many hotels are also available offering military discounts for family members. No pets are allowed at the Visitors’ Quarters, but pets up to 50 pounds area allowed at the Navy Lodges. Some hotels will accept pest for a moderate fee. Campgrounds are another option for those seeking temporary housing with electrical and water hookups. Campers have a choice of over 15 campsites. Many room rates and availability will depend on the time of year and capacity.
